STMicroelectronics to Double Production Volume at China Plant
June 21, 2010
It is reported that European chipmaker STMicroelectronics plans to expand one of its two plants located in China, according to a June 18, 2010 Bloomberg report. STMicroelectronics said that it plans to recruit more staff to double the output of the plant located in Longgang, Shenzhen, by 2012, according to the same source. The announcement was made despite the fact that the Shenzhen government has required employers to increase minimum wages by 16% starting from July this year.

STMicroelectronics, headquartered in Geneva, set up the Longgang plant in 2008. Currently STMicroelectronics hires a total of approximately 7,000 workers in China, and China accounted for about one-fourth of STMicroelectronics' global sales in the first quarter of 2010, according to STMicroelectronics.
